Planning a trip? We want you to feel confident and prepared. Here’s some helpful guidance on how to travel safely with your heySlim medication, from correct storage to managing your treatment while you're away.
How should I store my medication when travelling?
Storage instructions depend on whether you are travelling with a new pen or one that is already in use.
If you are travelling with a pen you have already started using:
- Your in-use pen can be safely stored at room temperature (below 30°C) for the duration of its use, which is typically 4 weeks.
- Keep it in a safe place away from direct heat and sunlight.
If you are travelling with a new, unused pen:
- An unused pen must be kept refrigerated (between 2°C and 8°C) until you are ready for its first use.
- Always pack your medication in your hand luggage, not your checked baggage, to protect it from extreme temperatures in the cargo hold.
- Transport it in a medical cool bag with an ice pack. Ensure the pen does not directly touch the ice pack, as you must not freeze your medication.
- Confirm ahead of time that your accommodation will have a refrigerator for storage.
How do I get a copy of my prescription for travel?
Some airlines and countries require you to carry official documentation for your prescription medication. If you need a copy of your prescription or a letter for travel, please contact our Patient Support Team at support@heyslim.co.uk.
We recommend requesting this at least 5-7 working days before your departure date to ensure we have enough time to prepare it for you.
What should I know about managing side effects abroad?
Changes in routine, diet, and climate can sometimes affect how you feel. While travelling:
- Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water, especially in warmer destinations.
- Listen to your body and be mindful of how new foods or activities might impact you.
- If you experience severe or persistent side effects, stop using the medication immediately and seek medical advice from a local doctor or pharmacy.
How can I dispose of my pen while abroad?
We recommend bringing your used pen home for safe disposal in a sharps bin. If you must dispose of it while travelling, do not throw it in a regular waste bin. Most local pharmacies can accept used injection pens for safe disposal, but we advise checking the local regulations of your destination beforehand.
